Part 4
At this point it is a good idea to read through the whole of the part and
check with the final diagram that you have all the bits in the right places
to save unpicking later.
Take eight of the A3 blocks. Sew them together, in a strip, so that the dark squares are all on the same side.
Repeat 3 times with the other 24 blocks to give four strips (label A4).
Take two of the strips and sew a block B3 to each end, with the medium square
of B3 on the same side as on the strips (label B4).
Take the 1 block F2 and 2 blocks G2.
Sew them together along the short edge, with the F2 block in the middle and all the dark/medium triangles on the same side. Press the seams towards the G2 blocks (label C4).
Take two of the strips (C4) and sew a square P to each end. Press the seams towards the squares (label D4).
Look at the master diagram and lay all the blocks out in their final places.
Sew the quilt together by first sewing the centre nine blocks in place. Keep
checking that you have everything the right way round.
Take the blocks C3, D3 and E3.
Sew a block D3 to each side of block E3, along the medium edges of D3. Press
the seams towards the blocks D3. Sew a block C3 to each dark side of a block
H2, make two. Press the seams towards the block D3. Sew the strips of blocks
together following the diagram, locking the seams, to make a big star block
with the large medium triangles facing inwards. Press the seams towards the
centre block. (label E4).
On each end of E4, pin and sew an inner border C4, with the dark/medium triangles
facing inwards, locking seams. Then add the other border and corner strips
(D4), matching seams with border to set the corners square.
Finally add an outer border A4 to each side, with the medium squares facing
inwards. Then add the other border and corner strips (B4), again matching
seams at the corners.
