Alysn Midgelow-Marsden : Beyond Babies, Beetroot and Bunsen Burners : 21 Nov. 2016
Members of London Quilters were given an insightful talk by our speaker at the November meeting, Alysn Midgelow-Marsden. She explained the process of making her installation in the Kaipara Sculpture Garden using leaf shapes, metal and wire beads. Metal is an essential component of her work, now taking the place of fabric. Her 'Ripple' series is a metaphor - life is movement from moment to moment. She described her cocoon installation on a tree and the reations of the public on encountering it.
Alysn's talk was accompanied by photograph showing the ways in which her work has developed and the processes behind some of the pieces. She was kind enough to allow photographs to be taken of her work at the Knitting and Stitching Show in October 2016. The pictures, shown below, give a feel of the scope of her work.
