How Many Colours in the Rainbow
Colour theory underpins the visual world. Today it may appear that there is one theory of colour, but actually over history many people have considered colour in a variety of ways from Aristotle to Goethe, from Newton to Joseph Albers. Susan Kay-Williams examines what men, and the occasional woman, have said about colour and how they have tried to ‘tame’ it into a theory. This is a very colourful lecture which will explore some of the theories illustrated by some wonderful colour charts.
Susan Kay-Williams is the author of The Story of Colour in Textiles.

September 18th 2023- Debs McGuire - A Scant History of the British Quilt
The more I learn as I research the quilts and quilters of the British Isles, the richer that history unveils itself to be. I have been making modern quilts that have their roots in British quilt history. You can read about each make on her website but recently I wanted to put this in a timeline, to make it easier to understand how the stories that my quilts reference fit together, how the Scant History of British Quilting and Patchwork fits together into the glorious patchwork of ideas, influences and emotions that is our textile history.

Preparation for Quilts at the Library 2023 exhibition.
June 19th - Amanda Hislop
I combine drawn and painted marks with the tactile qualities of thread, paper and cloth. The essence of the landscape and natural forms inspire my work. I use drawing to record fleeting fragments observed and absorbed; I look at the familiar, see the extraordinary and respond to subtle changes in view in the rhythmic motion of walking. The evocative moods of seasonal change and atmospheric qualities of light and changing weather experienced when walking are a constant source of inspiration.
Scale of work ranges from individual hangings, wall mounted panels and framed textile artworks.
