Cherry Vernon-Harcourt : Norfolk Inspirations : 17 October 2016
The speaker at our meeting on 17 October was Cherry Vernon-Harcourt, award winning quilter and teacher. Her talk, "Norfolk Inspirations", took us on a journey through the varied processes used to create her artworks - bucket and tray dyeing, soy wax resist, freezer paper stencils, mono and screen printing, breakdown printing and discharging with bleach and paste. She described her favourite tool as being an old credit card with which thickened dye paste is scraped onto fabric; needle nose bottles are also used for drawing with thickened dye
Her work is now mainly wholecloth art quilts inspired by the Norfolk land and sea scapes; she takes photographs for inspiration and reference, sometimes manipulating and then using them in artworks.
